It’s often surprising how freely women can talk about their intimate health problems or emotional issues compared to men. It has often been said that women have a greater emotional vocabulary but there is, arguably, a cultural aspect with British men. Many men demonstrate a "stiff upper lip" when it comes to acknowledging a health problem rather than actually dealing with it. Perhaps this is, in part, due to misguided beliefs taught from a young age such as "big boys don't cry" when it comes to expressing emotions. Alarmingly over 70% of suicides in the UK are males, illustrating that men are not as good at coping as they would have you believe.
Sadly it is true that men are less likely to seek help for a health problem. Perhaps that is why, when they do, the condition may have become more serious than it needed to. As well as finding it difficult to discuss emotional problems many men are uncomfortable at the thought of addressing "embarrassing" problems such as impotence, bladder/prostate problems or very challenging issues such as infertility. Many men now seek non invasive, alternative treatment for their health concerns. Just give Dave Masters, Homeopath, a call on 01872 262 519 to find out more!
