Caroline
Fallon will be striving especially hard this month to improve
the lives of people from the Sandbach community - by taking a
good look at their feet!
"In fact, I can tell more about a person by looking at their
feet than I ever can looking at their faces," smiles Caroline,
a fully qualified reflexologist, in practice at the Hope Street
Centre in Sandbach, under the name of Feet First.
And for Caroline, who lives in Goostrey, but who has now been
working at the Hope Street Centre for some six months, this month
could be a very significant one in her life of healing - and possibly
also in the lives of thousands, maybe even millions, of people
thoughout the world.
"Stress, sometimes leading to many other health anxieties,
is becoming more and more of a problem in our society, no doubt
largely due to the fierce pace of life today," explains Caroline.
"And that's just one of the reasons why a World Reflexology
Week is being staged from 20th to the 25th September.
"For us at the Hope Street Centre we are hoping people will
take advantage of our free 15-minute `taster' sessions,"
she adds. "In addition we are also offering discounted one-hour
treatments during this special week." Caroline goes on to
explain: "The most common problem I have dealt with over
the years can be summed up in one word - stress. Just a simple
short word but it can do so much damage to the well-being of a
person, blocking body energies and creating aches and pains.
|
"No-one
is going to suggest for a moment that reflexology is some sort
of quick-fix cure for all health complaints, but it is an art
of treatment to the body and mind which dates back to ancient
Egypt, India and China and was introduced to the western world
by a Dr. William Fitzgerald as long ago as 1913.
"Now this ancient way of soothing people's minds and restoring
the balance of their bodies to re-energise them is being used
to cure a very modern problem of stress, which has also become
one of the biggest causes of illness and absenteeism in the world
of commerce and business."
Caroline,
married to Goostrey Newsagents' owner Nigel, who also happens
to be a top rugby union referee, never ceases to be both amused
and even perplexed by the fact that almost all her clients always
regard their feet as ugly. "In fact, they should think exactly
the opposite,' 'adds Caroline.
"For starters, feet can tell me much more about a person
that their face ever does. There are 7,200 nerve endings in each
foot, so they will understandably have an effect on sending messages
to other parts of the body.
"That's why reflexology can be effective. It's a complementary
therapy which works on the feet to heal the whole person - not
just the symptoms.
|
It's accomplished
by using specific pressure on reflex points on the feet, an unconscious
reaction is initiated in another part of the body which, in turn,
affects the internal organs and glands.
"In short, reflexology is a gentle therapy which encourages
the body to work naturally to restore its own healthy balance."
It has also been used in pain clinics and cancer centres such
as Christie's. But it has been proved to be effective for Caroline's
clients in a wide variety of illnesses, such as: headaches, back
pain and whiplash, sleep disorders, hormonal imbalances, digestive
disorders, sports injuries, and, of course, stress-related conditions.
Caroline, who links nutritional advice to her treatment of clients,
points out that illness is not a pre-requisite of reflexology
and that a session can simple be a relaxing treat.
But for the vast majority it is a holistic therapy which
