Maurice Tomkinson is the founder and director of the Hope Street Centre. He is a BACP Accredited Counsellor and Psychotherapist, having trained with the Institute of Psychosynthesis. He is also a qualified Life Coach.
He established his counselling and psychotherapy practice at Sandbach in 1999 in the building which is now home to The Hope Street Centre. There are now over 24 therapists working from the centre offering a wide range of psychological and alternative therapies. Prior to training as a counsellor and psychotherapist, Maurice gained experience over several years as a volunteer on telephone helplines, talking to people in crisis and distress, both with the Samaritans and Saneline.
Maurice remains actively involved with issues of mental health and wellbeing in the local community. He represents the centre at the East Cheshire Local Involvement Network, and other mental health networking groups in Cheshire. He organised the Open Minds events for World Mental Health Day in Sandbach in October 2003 and 2004. He has helped to organise workshops on stress mastery, listening skills and self-harm.
