Parents have the important role of raising the next generation, yet most of us begin our parenting careers unprepared for what lies ahead. Parenting can be demanding, frustrating and exhausting. The challenge for all parents is to raise healthy, well-adjusted children in a loving, predictable environment.
Triple 'P' aims to make parenting easier, more enjoyable and more rewarding through offering suggestions and ideas via the programmes resources and strategies to help parents develop a positive relationship with their child/children and subsequently help their child's/children's healthy emotional, social and intellectual development; thereby preventing more serious behavioural problems in later life.
It is recognised that individual families have their own set of values, skills and needs. Throughout the programme the parent/carer remains the expert on their own child, it is the practitioners role to support them in bringing about the changes they want to make in their child's undesirable behaviour.
Researched in Australia over 20 years the approach is based upon up-to-date knowledge, is internationally recognised and has been found useful by thousands of families. Triple P is Psychology and CBT based.
Triple P was brought to the UK by North Staffs Combined Healthcare and The Children's Fund in 2003. Joy Hazlehurst was fortunate to be one of the first in UK to be offered the training whilst working as a counsellor on the childrens team at North Staffs Mind.
Joy Hazlehurst has been an accredited provider of Triple P since 2003:
After which she became part-time employed by North Staffs Combined Healthcare, at Westcliffe Hospital, where she was sponsored to do a further four levels:
Between 2003 and 2009 Joy facilitated Triple 'P' to parents, either on a one-to-one or within small groups, throughout Stoke-on-Trent. Note: The Triple P programme is offered to the parents, not the children, it is designed to enable parents to make the changes they want to see in their children.
